Important notices for Fall 1997 semester

1. John Chen is in charge of following student experience--if you are unhappy about anything, report it to him so we can try to fix it--we need feedback

2. Corey Weinheimer is in charge of organizing the quiz appointment system

3. The NMR experiment is scheduled for 3 lab periods. However you will note from the schedule there is some overlap. In other words, on your third lab period, another group may be starting the lab. Most groups will finish NMR in two periods. If you need extra time, and someone else is starting the experiment, you will need to make another arrangement. The simplest is to come to lab during Chem 345 (nobody will be doing NMR then) and finish up. Alternatively you can come in on Mon or Tues evening. Ask the TA if you have this problem ... you need to have a TA in the lab when you are working at all times.

4. The NMR experiment was moved from Chem 345 to Chem 347. If you are in Chem 347 and you already did the NMR lab, ask your TA. He will either assign you to do the EPR lab or repeat the NMR lab.

5. If you miss the lab clean up at the end of the semester, the TAs get riled and your TA evaluation grade will really suffer.

6. MRI is the magnetic resonance imaging (Expt 12) available in special handout. Since MRI involves paramagnetic resonance, the EPR experiment precedes MRI. MRI is new this semester, so we expect some bugs. If MRI is down, talk to the TA. He will probably tell you to do the magnetic susceptibility (Expt 7) in its place.

7. Since MRI and EPR share some of the equipment, if two groups need to use the equipment at the same time, talk to the TA. He will arrange another schedule. It works out well if you arrange to come in during Chem 347 (nobody will be using the EPR equipment then) or during Wed or Thurs evening. However you should arrange this with the TA because you can't work in the lab without a TA present.
